If you have a student with moderate to severe autism or other language-based or intellectual disabilities, you will likely need to teach and review relational concepts. The most foundational relationship concept is size, specifically words like big, little, large, and small. Older students often do not have a firm grasp of size relationships, which can impact math relational concepts of equal, greater than, and less than. After your student masters this set, you will be ready to work with attribute blocks to work on other characteristics that can generalize to other math skills, science classification, and adjectives in grammar.
