Neon Fish Pond is an active file folder game for students to identify and review one-syllable words with short vowels. When you purchase this game, mount the directions and game board pond to a letter-sized file folder. The neon fish have a number on one side and a short-vowel word on the other side. Print the neon fish word cards in full color. They work best if printed double-sided or mounted to cardstock. Laminate if you wish and cut out the fish/word cards. Add a staple or paper clip to each card.
Students take turns fishing. The teacher can decide if they should simply identify the vowel, read the word, spell it, or use it in a sentence. At the end of the game, students count up the numbers on the fish for their score. The player with the highest score wins!
NOTE: The purchasing teacher will need to prepare for the game by creating one or more fishing rods. A 1/8 to 1/4 inch dowel, a 3 foot long string or yarn, and a magnet to be tied or hot glued to the string will create the fishing pole.
