This Homeschool Behavior Sandbox is a family economy that helps to teach kids and teens self-regulation. 7 pages.

It is especially effective for kids with ADHD, ODD, and other brain-based behavioral issues. This set includes Teacher Instructions, Anchor Charts (Posters), Explanation pages for implementing the Sandbox and why, and a SODAS 5-Step Problem-Solving Form. This system is based on Nicholeen Peck’s YouTube videos and book, Parenting a House United: Training Self-Government. The system lays out a simple set of expectations or rules, possible rewards, and earned consequences. The rules become the “sandbox” in which all family members will utilize self-control. Parents will use a calm face, voice, and body when giving directions and providing rewards and consequences. Because everything is planned ahead, there is no need for yelling or wanting to pull your hair out! The rewards involve lots of praise and relationship-building activities. The earned consequences help to establish a solid work ethic and learning cause and effect relations to behavior.

When we introduced this in our home, our son said, “I wish we had this all along. This system is fair.” He still has a defiant attitude in his voice sometimes, but the opposition and impulsive behaviors reduced drastically almost immediately. I hope that sharing our posters with you will help your family also!
