Constellations are an interesting unit in science astronomy studies. This set contains two versions of 19 constellations: one with connecting lines and one without. The Teacher Instruction page contains suggested resources for background information for various types of learners. The teacher page also contains a list of supplies for creating a Constellations Project Book. You can use the pages individually for coloring or as connect-the-dots pages using information resources. 41 pages total.

This set is a unit that can be taught from a Christian or secular worldview. The constellations are presented individually for astronomy lessons – and not using astrology or the zodiac.

Some of our unit studies contain many different activities; however, this constellations project is a simple file. The project of making a constellations book allows students with special learning needs to learn about constellations in the ways they learn best. At the same time, the process of making the constellations book gives lots of opportunity for students to practice fine motor skills. The project only requires basic school supplies: blue or black construction paper, paper clips, a pushpin or something to punch holes, a white colored pencil or chalkboard marker. The book looks really cool with star stickers!

Many kids with special learning needs spend a lot of time doing prescribed tasks for their weaknesses. Yet, many kids with dyslexia and autism are as eager to gain content knowledge as their neurotypical peers. Simple projects for content topics can do double duty of working on those weaker skills, while the child is absorbed in learning content information! Having a finished product helps a unique learner feel satisfied that they have created something to show about their learning.

As a homeschool parent you can adjust the daily requirement, the length of time spent on the whole unit, and how your child completes the project. We hope you have fun studying the stars with your kids!
