When students are first transitioning from one-syllable words to learning syllable division rules, they need plenty of practice finding the vowels and dividing closed syllables. This set has loads of practice in a game, worksheets, and syllable matching cards.
NOTE: This game takes longer than the 15 minute limit of our typical file folder games, so if time is limited, just set a kitchen timer for the time available. The winner is the player with the most checkers left on the board. Also, 2 versions of the game are provided: one with the same words facing both directions and one with different words to provide additional practice for students who are able to visually process more easily. (Most of my students have been fine with different words.) So, in actuality, you get 3 games in all!
This set has 8 worksheets for students to divide syllables, read isolated words, and copy words. The worksheets are set up so you can fold the page in half for students to practice writing words from short-term memory. You can also use the worksheets as workbox tasks for multisensory spelling activities, like shaving cream or a sand tray.
This set has 8 pages of syllable matching cards. If you teach a phonics-based approach and are introducing morphology, cut the cards apart and present one page of cards at a time for students to build closed syllable word lists. The syllable matching cards are great for homeschool task boxes or special education literacy centers.
