Pirate Island takes students on a barefoot walk looking for treasure on a deserted island while decoding words with au and aw spellings. Pirate Island is a full-color file folder game that works on au and aw words. If you are a homeschooler looking for extra phonics practice or an Orton-Gillingham tutor looking for games that will give your students more decoding practice, you will love Pirate Island. The au and aw words in Pirate Island are carefully selected to support any multisensory, systematic phonics program. Most of the words in this game are 1 syllable; although there are consonant blends, digraphs, and a few simple 2-syllable au and aw words. 11 pages.

When you purchase this game, you will be able to download and print it in full color. Mount the cover with directions and 2-page game board to a letter-sized file folder. Print the Word Cards 2-sided on colored cardstock or glue them back-to-back with the background pages. Also included are Bootie Coins and 4 Pirate Movers. Laminate if you wish, cut out, and play! The only other thing needed is a regular 6-sided die. BTW, I store my pieces in a small mailing envelope tucked into the file folder – so easy to store and travel to clients!

My students love to play games and ask to play over and over again! Which just means more practice with decoding phonics au and aw phonics words. LOL
