Teens with special needs can learn to write well-structured paragraphs! Many need a consistent practice through a scaffolded planning form to be successful. If you want your students to practice how-to paragraph writing, this is the set for you!
Two blank forms of writing templates are provided. Form A is the simplest form with a planning grid at the top and writing space below. Form B provides a bit more advanced planning grid that gives space to plan transition phrases between details. Print and laminate them to create a dry erase planner that can be used over and over again!
A total of 250 pages of prompts for writing how-to paragraphs are presented in the planning form. Most writing programs change directions and the “look” of the worksheet pages for writing. Students with special needs often feel like they are learning something completely new with every assignment. Using the same form allows students to become comfortable with the process and feel secure with the consistent practice, allowing them to build on the skills from previous assignments. The prompts cover topics of processes in daily life, academic subjects, and careers. The topics are tailored for older students who still need guided practice in written expression.
Teacher Instruction pages will help you understand the reasoning for using formatted writing prompts, how to use the templates, and ways you can use the pages in your own setting. There’s even a process for teaching proofreading to your students that can serve as your evaluation tool!
