The social skills focus for October is Friendliness. Training social skills in your homeschool can be more effective than in a school setting. Grab these FREE Friendship Skills Goal Cards as reminders for specific skills to practice. Pick one for a few days to a week to practice. Laminate them and hang them up around the house. Print them out for pocket keepers. Your child can have a reminder card in a pants pocket. It doesn’t even need to be pulled out to be effective! Start with SMILING! Many kids with autism and other behavioral issues that impact social skills struggle with reading and using facial expressions effectively. Start with explaining that smiling is a first clue that another kid wants to be a friend. When you smile, others get that same message. AND…smiling is contagious!
