This Manuscript Handwriting Stage A is the first level of the Unique Learners Handwriting Series designed for older students with fine motor skills difficulties. The font is simplified and based on strokes. The primer lines are 1.5 inches from “sky” to “ground.” The primer lines are color-coded and do not look “babyish.” 59 pages total.

This set Includes:

  • Teacher Instructions
  • 8 Pages Large Strokes
  • 15 Pages Letters by Strokes for tracing
  • 26 Pages or 52 Half-Pages of Individual Letters
  • 1 Blank Primer Lined Page
  • 1 Page Handwriting Evaluation Page

The Teacher Instruction page outlines our sequence of how manuscript is developed through the presentation of strokes, gradually reduced primer lines, and how to evaluate handwriting. The primer lines for this set are 3/8 inches from line to line and 1.5 inches from “sky” to “ground.”

The large strokes pages are presented in boxes for copying.

The Letters for Strokes are presented in an orange font. You may print the pages in full color or in grayscale. Use thick or thin markers, specialized pencils, or regular pencil with your child’s preferred pencil grip. If needed, contact your child’s OT for suggestions for writing implements and helps.

The Letters for Copying are presented in a purple font. You may print the pages in full color or in grayscale. Students should copy the letters 3 or more times with your preferred pencil. Depending on what your child can handle, either have the student complete the whole page in one assignment or cut the pages in half and assign only one letter case at a time.

These handwriting pages may be laminated for repeated practice. Use the pages in taskboxes or workboxes. The simple format and font help older students with more severe fine motor skills issues to be successful with the scaffolded support needed.

If your student is beyond the need for Stage A, look at Stage B or Stage C on primer lines or stages with solid one-space high lines.
