10 Fun Father’s Day Activities

Father’s Day is a special time to celebrate all the love, laughs, and life lessons that dads bring to our lives. Whether your dad is outdoorsy, artistic, playful, or a bit of all three, spending quality time together is one of the best gifts you can give. Here are 10 fun Father’s Day activities and Father’s Day craft ideas that kids and families can do with Dad to make the day memorable:

1. DIY Super Dad Cape

Turn Dad into the superhero he truly is! Use an old pillowcase or t-shirt and decorate it with fabric markers, glitter, and iron-on patches. Write messages like “Super Dad” or “Captain Awesome” and let the kids get creative with symbols and colors.

2. Backyard Camping Adventure

You certainly go out to the wilderness in your area. We loved to go to Copper Creek Campground in the mountains in Montana. But if you don’t have the time to take a mini trip, set up a tent in the backyard and have a mini camping trip. Roast marshmallows over a fire pit (or make s’mores in the microwave), stargaze, tell silly stories, and enjoy a night under the stars—no travel required!

3. Build a Birdhouse Together

Get a simple birdhouse kit or gather some wood pieces and nails to construct one from scratch. Let the kids paint and personalize it. It’s a hands-on project that also brings wildlife into your yard!

4. Father’s Day Coupon Book

Have the kids create a homemade coupon book filled with favors like “One car wash,” “Breakfast in bed,” “Movie night of your choice,” or “Quiet time for Dad.” Each coupon is a promise of love and service. One of our girls did this when she was around 8 or 9 years old. Dad treasured the booklet so much, he never had the heart to use the coupons. She so much wanted to serve her Dad with actions she could do, so he cashed in a few without tearing apart the booklet.

5. Play Backyard Sports

Go outside with Dad for Father’s Day. Whether it’s catch, basketball, soccer, or even a water balloon toss, get active outdoors. If you have at least 4 in your family, you could use a twin sized flat sheet and a few water balloons to play a silly volleyball type of game. A team scores a point when the water balloon slides off that side of the sheet and breaks the feet of the team. Set up an obstacle course and do races. Set up a mini tournament with silly prizes and let Dad be the MVP of the day.

6. Create a “Why Dad is Great” Scrapbook

Help your kids make a Father’s Day photo scrapbook. Each kid can make a page about why they think Dad is great. Print out some family photos, gather stickers, colored paper, and glue, and help the kids create a mini scrapbook. Each page can feature a drawing or writing prompt like “My favorite memory with Dad” or “Dad always makes me laugh when…”

7. Grill Together and Make Dad’s Favorite Meal

Let Dad be the grill master—or help him take the day off! Get the kids involved in prepping simple dishes, setting the table, and serving up a feast with all of Dad’s favorite foods.

8. Paint a Rock for Dad

Find a smooth rock and let the kids paint it with messages like “Dad Rocks!” or colorful designs. It makes a great paperweight or garden decoration and is a sweet, simple craft even little ones can do.

9. Go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt

Take a walk in the park or woods and look for items on a scavenger hunt list: a feather, a heart-shaped rock, a bird’s song, or a yellow flower. Make it a team challenge and enjoy exploring nature together.

10. Record a Father’s Day Interview

Use your phone or camera to record the kids answering questions about Dad: “What’s Dad’s favorite food?”, “What’s the funniest thing Dad says?”, or “Why do you love Dad?” Put it together as a surprise video gift!

Conclusion
Father’s Day isn’t just about the gifts—it’s about making memories that last. Father’s Day activities and crafts can turn another dull Sunday into a fun family celebration of Dad! Whether you’re crafting, playing, or just hanging out, the best thing you can give Dad is your time and attention. Choose one (or a few!) of these activities and enjoy a joyful day celebrating your one-of-a-kind father figure.

Happy Father’s Day!
